I headed out very early today. Aside from the fact it’s going to be really hot later, I wanted to finish my ride and be back to watch live Tour coverage. I  headed to Navy Pier. For some reason, I’ve been riding there and taking pictures for the past few years on July 4. Seems fitting.

As I rode down Illinois Street, I passed an older gentleman on his bike. As I went by, I said “good morning” and received a huge smile and a “good morning” back.

Once I reached the end of the Pier, I stopped to take a few pictures. The gentleman I had passed pulled up next to me and said, “I’m glad I caught up to you. Would you like to share my breakfast?”

I thanked him, but politely declined. He headed toward the benches at the furthest point of the Pier to watch the sunrise and eat his breakfast. I had a feeling he had done this many times before.

I took this pic of him before I headed on my way…
